Microsoft Word 2003 Standard Toolbar:

Once created, you can quickly find the icons (and hence functions) that you were familiar with in Word 2003.  Here's what you do:

  1. Start Word 2007
  2. Click the drop-down for the Quick Launch toolbar in the upper right-hand side of Word
  3. Select 'More Commands...'
    -The More Commands window appears
  4. Select the following from the window on the left hand side and arrange them in the following order:
    -New
    -Open
    -Save
    -E-mail
    -Quick Print
    -Print Preview
    -Spelling & Grammar
    -Cut
    -Copy
    -Paste
    -Format Painter
    -Undo
    -Redo
    -Insert Hyperlink
    -Borders
    -Insert Table
    -Columns
    -Chart Quick Styles
    -Document Map
    -Show all
    -Zoom
    -Help
  5. Click 'OK'
The QuickLaunch toolbar should look like this:

Turn-off the annoying 'Are you sure you want to ...' in Windows Vista

Q:
I just purchased a computer with Windows Vista.  It has a super annoying feature that asks something like, 'Are you sure you want to ___?' every time I install or run certain programs.  Is there a way to turn this off?

A: This 'Are you sure you want to...?' messages are a security feature built-in to Vista that is designed to help alert you of programs that try to install themselves or do something malicious that you would otherwise not know about.  The only problem is that you are bombarded with this message each time you do something legitimate.  If you would like to turn it off, here's what you do:
In Vista:
1. Windows button > Control Panel
2. Click 'User Accounts' and Family Safety'
3. Click 'User Accounts'
4. Click 'Turn User Account Control on or off'
5. Uncheck 'Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer
6. Click 'OK'
7. Select to 'Restart Now' to restart your computer

Now you will only be annoyed by a reminder asking you to turn the UAC back on.
Daylight Savings - Are your Handhelds prepared?

March 13 2007
Q:
I have a Treo.  Is there anything that I need to do to prepare for the new Daylight Savings Time change for this year?

A: If you own a Palm, Treo or even a BlackBerry, you have to update it to avoid any problems with Daylight Saving (Here I am just having problems keeping up with my coffee maker & microwave).

Anyway, here's is the Palm website that gives you the scoop. It's a download that will get everything on your portable brain all hunky-dory:

Turn-off the 'Would you like to send an error report?'

Q:
I am tired of those ‘Would you like to send an Error Report’ windows coming up when a program crashes in Windows. Is there a way to turn it off?

A: It’s bad enough that your program crashed while you were probably doing something important that you are then prompted to send a post-mortem back to the mother ship – as if they will provide an immediate remedy.

If you want to minimize the inconvenience of dealing with the Error Report by turning it off in this situation, what you do:

In Windows:
1. Right Click your ‘My Computer’ icon (either on your desktop or Start menu)
2. Select ‘Properties’
3. Click the ‘Advanced’ tab
4. Click the ‘Error Reporting’ button
-In the ‘Error Reporting’ window
5. Select ‘Disable error reporting’
6. Click ‘OK’
7. Click ‘Apply’
8. Click ‘OK’
That’s it!
